“…sumptuously mounted and grandly scaled tribute… Craig Ilott’s direction built a sturdy frame for the event… everyone who caught this affectionate, funny and musically exceptional evening felt they got their money’s worth and more… Should Diamonds Are For Trevor come around again – and it must after this – don’t miss it.”
“Aided by Craig Ilott’s astute direction Ashley delivers the diva of all diva’s. But Ashley also manages to find the humanity under the glittering façade and for me, that’s what knocks this performance out of the ballpark.”
The show is titillating and raunchy, funny and mischievous, extravagant and excessive … directed deftly by Craig Ilott … If you love a bold, vivid drag show with a touch of style, lashings of humour and some big, belting Bassey tunes, Diamonds Are For Trevor is the show for you.
Production wise, this is hard to fault. The simple, starry set looks great, keeping the orchestra front and centre. The costumes are glorious … and the lighting design is top notch. It’s the kind of outfit that wouldn’t look out of place in an actual Shirley Bassey concert, and given the kind of budget one would expect from such a venture, that is high praise indeed.
The influence of director Craig Ilott can be seen in the tight, lean structure of the show.
The staging, lighting, musical arrangements and of course the fantastic sound of 14 musicians on stage all came together in this splendid production.
